Are we ever going to have a schedule without Loyola (NO) on it? We literally play them every year! Can we not find other teams that want to play us, or something? It's getting old seeing NAIA and non-D1 schools on our schedule.
They do not have Ole Miss at home, that game is part of an MTE and will be played in Atlanta. The Louisville game is part of a 3 for 1 that includes them playing 2 games at Louisville and Louisville hosting them in Nashville. Certainly a nice looking schedule but the "cards" just happen to fall in their favor this year.
Is this the guy who searched for our home OOC schedule?
P5 and G5 don't exactly translate to basketball well but I get your point. I would say the last quality out of state non conference team to come to the Dome was UCSB 2 years ago. That is a team that won the Big West last year and went to the tournament as a 12 seed and almost pulled off the classic 12-5 upset against Creighton. The year before (when we played them) they were 2nd in the Big West before the tournament was cancelled due to Covid.
That was actually the year we "bought" 2 decent non conference games. The problem is UCSB on the schedule doesn't move the needle with the average fan and does nothing to drive up attendance for an early non conference game.
As far as as "P5" level team you would have to have to go back 15 years now to Tennessee, which was the last time we did a 2 for 1.
Marlin's schedule has a couple factors....1st we arent paying a whole lot of money to get teams so makes scheduling pretty tough....2nd, what we consider peer teams probably don't want to schedule us home and home because they get nothing out of it, our RPI is abysmal almost every year
