Nate Snyder Named a William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist
Placekicker Nate Snyder has been named one of 176 semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation announced on Wednesday morning.
Celebrating its 31st year, the award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
Snyder has made his impact on the team kicking off this season, tallying 21 kickoffs for 1,244 yards through the first four weeks.
He owns one of the highlights of the head coach Billy Napier era, hitting a 53-yard field goal as time expired to clinch a 20-18 victory over Georgia Southern on Sept. 26, 2020, at Cajun Field.
Named in honor of the late William V. Campbell, the former chairman of Intuit, former player and head coach at Columbia University and the 2004 recipient of the NFF's Gold Medal, The William V. Campbell Trophy® Presented by Mazda has become the most prestigious and desirable "academic" award in college football.
Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates must be: a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility; have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player; and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
Louisiana continues Sun Belt play on the road on Saturday, Oct. 2, when it travels to Mobile, Ala., to take on the South Alabama Jaguars. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
