KAPLAN — It took a little longer than expected, but the Kaplan Pirates have a new head football coach.

After requesting two weeks to further review the interview process at its Feb. 25 meeting, the Vermilion Parish School Board voted Thursday to approve the hiring of Stephen Lotief as the new head football coach at Kaplan High.

“I’m glad it went through,” said Lotief, who spent the last eight seasons as the head coach at North Vermilion. “I think a change of scenery will be good for me at this point in my life.”
