    I agree with this 100%

I forget the year, but coach Stokley was getting into the habit of squib kicking after a TD or FG.

Doing this gave the opponent the ball regularly at the 35 and 40.

At the same time if the drive stalled at the 35 or 40 he would punt, often giving them the ball at the 20. A 20 or 15 yard difference.

At the coaches show with Don Allen at Pete's I asked coach, "if you are consistently willing to squib kick and give them the ball at the 40 after a kickoff, why not go for it on 4th and short from the 40?

    I won a t-shirt for the question.

To your point, sometimes coaches don't realize when they are being inconsistent.

Neither Mitchell or Ragas had even 900 yards last season. I’d be shocked if we don’t have a 1000 years rusher this year. We also ran for 2300 and change. We will top that as well.

We will need to run the ball more due to the passing game not being their.

But we will probably play two more games than last season, so that is a factor in comparing overall numbers. We MAY be more talented this season at RB (very debatable), but to say we will be better after losing two players with that amount of experience and production is a head scratcher.

I will take Ragas and Mitchel as Seniors and Smith as a Freshman over Smith as a Soph and Bailey and Johnson as Fr without a doubt.

Can that 3 some turn into a better version, yes they can, but they certainly aren't there yet.

Good analogy to my point. Just be consistent. We possibly could be playing 2 more ranked teams (App St and Liberty) on our schedule. Let’s run the table and end up in the top 25 and a SBC championship in Lafayette!

App St and Liberty will have the better quarterback which will make it very hard to beat both.

If we have a 1,000 yard rusher this year it will be due to the opposite of what you say about our depth and that we don't have the amount of depth we had last year and have to rely on one guy to be the workhorse. Napier has never really used any one back as a workhorse and I honestly don't think Smith is the guy to rush for that many yards and have that type of usage.

So by this logic, LL was better than all the other QB's that the Cajuns beat in the last two seasons?

The answer to that is No, just in case you were wondering.

Also could be that our OL is better and deeper than last season, as well.

You know we’ve said the same thing for about 10-12 years right.

    Fenroy & Wallace
    Harris & McGuire
    Ragas, Mitchell & Calais
    Ragas, Mitchell & Smith
    Smith, Johnson & Bailey

Each group has gotten more talented.

Smith could reach 1000 yards without having a ton of carries. He will break a few huge runs once we get into SBC play. Or just the rest of our OOC schedule.

Ragas didn't do it a couple years ago when he was averaging 10 yards per carry, leading the nation or in the top 5 for sure in ypc. Smith is not the type of runner that I think will physically hold up to the type of running game we employ which is much more power oriented. You run him 12+ times per game he's going to wear down. If you look at our backs, we have had issues with almost all of them dealing with injuries at some point in the year because of that style and those were guys built more for that type of game.
