I think Rob had the relationship with billy to tell him he was being too conservative with play calling. Odd dynamic being the OC or CO-OC’s and head coach calls the plays. Takes a special relationship to tell your boss he needs to do better. JMO, I think Rob and Billy were on that level

Agreed. There was a lot of talk prior to the game about it being decided in the trenches. IMO, it was decidedly not a big factor in the outcome of the game.

I think the defense not making plays on 3rd down was the biggest factor in the game, along with our refusal (inability?) to go downfield with the ball. When is Napier going to take the training wheels off of Levi?

We have got to throw the ball down field sometimes.. Levi has to run to keep the defense honest. If the 2 previous situations don't occurr, our running game will be a shell of its self from previous years

Levi is who he is. It’s not training wheels, it’s how he plays.

I’ve said it for 3 years now, Levi Lewis will go down as the winningest QB is school history. He will almost never cost us a game (MissSt), but he will rarely win a game for us by taking it over. His best asset is his ability to lead and win. The kids a winner, period. He will win 10 games again this year. Hell, Levi will win at life as well.

Another problem is talented WR’s who IMO are poorly coached. Our passing game is simple, which most RPO schemes are simple concept in the passing game.

WR’s have gotten poor releases off the line, improper depth on routes, not knowing where the boundary is. There is a multitude of improvements that those guys can make. They are a very talented group, but still raw.

  6. UL Football Plenty of areas to improve upon after humbling loss at Texas

The offseason of hype and living off last year’s breakthrough season officially ended in Austin, Texas on Saturday for the UL Ragin’ Cajuns.

From beginning to end last season, UL coach Billy Napier was never comfortable with his team’s execution, despite finishing 10-1 and ranked No. 15 in the final AP poll.

One of the stated goals was to keep Robinson under 100 yards on 20 carries.

I'd say 103 on 20 carries is accomplishing that goal. I don't think those 4 yards were the difference in the game. He had a long of 19.

Chris Smith had 11 carries for 55 yards. That pace is 100 yards on 20 carries. He had a long of 27

Problem is LL is the 5 or 6th ranked QB in the belt ... a lot of schools went out and got stud signal callers. Napier love for him blinds him to his inability.

Dude, do you know ANYTHING about football? You sound like a spoiled 7th grader. Stop crying and move on. Yesterday wasn't totally on LL, there's plenty of blame to go around, mainly not getting Texas off the field on 3rd down. Coach Toney got his Zzz handed to him.

I agree with everything above, buddy, and I think your last statement is very important to understand. All you said above it above Levi Lewis is true. The kid is bright, and he's not really going to lose you games. His M.O. as a QB has been not to turn the ball over, especially throwing picks.

As a result, I think (don't know for sure, because I don't know what's in his head) if he doesn't have a big enough window to be comfortable throwing the ball into, he's going to hang on to it until it gets larger, or he's going to immediately check down to a 2 yard route on a 3rd and Long.

He's trying not to make that costly mistake, which I respect. At the same time, while our receivers are good by Sunbelt standards, they aren't going to create that sort of preferred separation vs. DBs from a program like Texas. Much like Coach Napier taking the risk of that onside kick which will be questioned by many for doing at that point in the game, Levi needed to take a couple more risks yesterday. It's just what you have to do in a game like that.

I know schemes can play a large part, but can anyone interpret ...

Their top 3 tacklers were Line Backers.

Louisiana's top 2 tacklers were Defensive Linemen.

Their top DL tackler was 6th on their list.

Louisiana's top LB tacklers were 4th and 5th
