Lafayette city marshal deputies working in conjunction with the US Marshal Fugitive Task Force and Probation and Parole, arrested one CARLON DEANDRA SIMS at I-49 and Gloria Switch. SIMS who has 36 previous arrests was arrested on a PAROLE WARRANT and ARMED ROBBERY. SIMS was paroled May 20, 2008 for Unauthorized Use of a Movable and Simple Burglary. On June 19, 2008 he allegedly robbed a Circle K store in Baton Rouge at gunpoint. SIMS was aired by Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers as MOST WANTED in July 2008. The warrant was entered into NCIC.
A Lafayette deputy marshal developed information received and traced SIMS to a mobile home located in the 700 block of Gendarme Road-Carencro, Louisiana. The vehicle occupied by SIMS and driven by SAMANTHA LEE MCCORMICK of the 700 block of Gendarme was stopped by Lafayette deputy marshals and task force members at I-49 and Gloria Switch.
SIMS was arrested without incident and taken into custody. MCCORMICK was found to be driving under suspension for an OWI conviction is St. Landry Parish. The driver license she had in her possession was expired since January 17, 2010. She had a previous arrest in Lafayette for OWI in 2007.
A search was made of the mobile home and a 20 gauge crack barrel shotgun and some marijuana was found in the bedroom occupied by SIMS and MCCORMICK.
SIMS' record dates back to 1990 when he was charged with ILLEGAL CARRYING OF WEAPONS. He has been arrested for POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE, DISTRIBUTION OF COCAINE; BATTERY ON A POLICE OFFICER; POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY; SIMPLE ROBBERY; SIMPLE BURGLARY; UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A MOVABLE and RESISTING AN OFFICER. He has been assigned to THE LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS at least eight times.
MCCORMICK was issued a citation for OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE WHILE UNDER SUSPENSION and released. Her vehicle was impounded and stored and her driver license picked up to be sent to Baton Rouge. SIMS was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center with holds for EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH and PROBATION and PAROLE-LOUISIANA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS.
