Thread: High expectations for the Cajuns as fall camp begins

  1. UL Football High expectations for the Cajuns as fall camp begins

The 2021 edition of the Ragin’ Cajun football team starts the year as the Sun Belt West favorites.

The success over the past few seasons has turned the attention of many, including national pollsters. The Cajuns enter the 2021 season and the preseason power rankings as the 23rd best team.

I’d say we’re at least two weeks out from seeing the two deep.

Don't be surprised if we do match up pretty well with them. This isn't 'Bama we're dealing with here. If anything, we may be even a little better with the 'horns match-up-wise than we were against Iowa State last year. I can't wait for this game!!!

I think many people are underestimating UT and the talent level they have. They have top 10 talent, they just haven't been coached well recently. They are big, fast, strong, and deep. They will be the most talented team we have played since we played #1 Alabama in 2018. It is a gigantic challenge to go there and beat them. Can it be done, possibly, if things go our way and Texas comes out a bit confused from still learning their new coaches system. They won't be shell shocked by UL the way Iowa State was.

This times a thousand! They will be bigger and faster. That does not mean they will be better though. If we beat UT it will absolutely be an upset.

Have we ever played in a football game where both teams were in the top 25?

Your talent can only take you so far… you need to develop at the next level and Texas has not done that well….hard work beats talent went talent doesn’t work hard and I’ll take a 5 star effort over a 5 star recruit any day. People get way to hung up on stars as it is a nice quantifiable method as which to judge the caliber of a player you should be getting, but it doesn’t measure effort and the human intangibles…. This is going to be an exciting game as both sides should be fired up. Also we have been recruiting pretty damn talented guys the last 3 years.

I don't disagree with what you say about development and intangibles, and Coach Napier and his staff have brought every bit of that into our program.

However, I agree with ULGrad@Hou that despite its recent way-underachievement, UT football is still recruiting, and has always recruited, in another stratosphere than Louisiana football. There is nothing wrong in understanding that, and an objective person understands that means a natural talent disadvantage.

I believe their RB, who was a freshman last season, is a future Top 20 draft pick, and very likely a future Heisman contender.

Unless we can create at least four turnovers, or get two big special teams plays (doesn't have to be a return for TD, but blocked punt/FG, big return inside UT's 10), we will need to play turnover-free football ourselves to win.
