Thread: SBC-Covid protocol 2021 Football season

  1. #1

UL Football SBC-Covid protocol 2021 Football season

    Summary:

Vaccinated players will not be required to be tested.
Un-Vaccinated players will be required to be tested.
It basically is up to the individual team if they want to field a team if they have an outbreak due to limited players.
The game will not be made up if one team decides to forfeit which would only occur if that team chooses not to play due to not enough players being available.

Is there any requirement of a percentage of players required to be vaccinated?

Will the BCS Selection Committee really weigh a forfeit the same as if a team takes the field and gets curb stomped?

I would think a forfeit would be viewed more so as a loss.

There is no required percentage, as vaccinations are optional.

And, a forfeit will, in fact, be viewed as a loss. That's why the word forfeit is being used. Otherwise it would be "no contest."

I would need to know who the team is that forfeited and who the team is that got curbed stomped, in order to give you my opinion on how it'll be viewed.

When it is fresh in mind "how it is viewed" will matter.

Historically, down the road "how its viewed" will not be favorable.

A forfeit is a forfeit, and if they overlook it in the present (knowingly) it will be viewed in the future as openly cheating.

It will be virtually ignored if it is a team they want to put in and it will be the biggest loss on the schedule if it is a team they want to leave out. So, just like every other operative variable has been treated in the past by the committee.

How can a forfeit due to covid be considered openly cheating?

When the committee does this and the team knew they would when they forfeit instead of facing the competition:

It will be virtually ignored if it is a team they want to put in and it will be the biggest loss on the schedule if it is a team they want to leave out. So, just like every other operative variable has been treated in the past by the committee.

This is what I was thinking which is why I raised the question.

How messed up would it be if Texas forfeited?
I can promise you when it came down to the end and we went undefeated they would not hold that against Texas nor would they put a feather in our cap for NY6 or a playoff bid.

Yep - if Texas went undefeated other than the forfeit, that would qualify for the NCPO and we be treated as undefeated but not having a signature win.

Kind of like a 3 loss Iowa State ranked over the Cajuns.

Exactly. A head to head win for Louisiana and you still rank Iowa State ahead of Louisiana.

Not really. Iowa State had three losses, none of which were forfeits. We are talking about forfeits in the Covid era here.
