Thread: Conor Angel's unusual path to being drafted aided by former UL pitching aces

  1. NFL, NBA, MLB Conor Angel's unusual path to being drafted aided by former UL pitching aces

When former UL right-hander Conor Angel was drafted in the 15th round by the Tampa Bay Rays on day three of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, it likely raised a few eyebrows.

Despite being recognized as the Sun Belt Conference’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year, the spring season didn’t go anywhere near as planned.

“He was kind of watching it all slip away. At a certain point, you have to be a man and make a tough decision.”

Angel did just that and elected to leave the team with about a month left in the season.

I don’t see anywhere in this article where either the two Robichaux’s or Devey called this Cajun athlete a quitter. What he was called is a man.

Good luck to him in his MLB pursuits - something that probably would not have happened had he not made a decision that only a man can make.

Vic, where do you see his max potential?

There is a mound at every level of pro ball. What is the highest minor league level do you see him making it to, or do you think he can make it to the majors?

I have no clue. I have not seen him since those boys worked with him. He has the tools, it is just if he can put it all together.

Trust me, I know what having all the tools and not being able to put it together means.

With those 3 MEN working with him he may they figured it out. I agree it is just a mental approach issue. I think he will make it up to AA. Not knocking him it is just a hard grind. Wish him the best. Any Cajun guy that makes it to the pro level is a win for the program.

I can agree with ALL of that, except part of it may have been tweeting little things in his delivery. The smallest things can sometimes make a huge difference.

IMHO it’s in between the ears. He has all the tools you could ever ask for. But he may not have the mental makeup to get to where his talent could get him.

Before you think that’s a knock on him, I was an elite level athlete with the work ethic of a snail. The mental game is what separates the majority of collegiate/elite level athletes from professional athletes.

Haha I should have played baseball or focused on the javelin. After focusing on Academics instead of nightlife.

Angel has all the tools. I hope he figures it out.
