Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golfer Charlie Flynn fired a 3-under-par 69 to finish one stroke off the individual lead and qualified for the 121st U.S. Amateur Golf Championships on Tuesday at LaTour Golf Club.

Flynn, who qualified for the 2019 U.S. Amateur, will compete in the USGA's top annual event which is scheduled for August 9-15 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa. The Alexandria, La., native and former C.E. Byrd High product opened the 36-hole event with a 4-under 68 on Monday and finished at 7-under 137 for the two rounds – one stroke behind Texas A&M's William Paysse (69-67-136).

Flynn led Louisiana with a 73.08 scoring average during the 2020-21 season and earned first-team All-Louisiana and second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. He produced seven top-20 finishes on the season, with three top-10 performances on the course, highlighted by fourth-place finish at the Border Olympics (71-71-72-214).

His low round of the season (a 4-under-par 68) came in the second round of the 36th annual Louisiana Classics held in March at Oakbourne Country Club. Flynn finished tied for seventh at the Craft Farms Intercollegiate (73-74-69-217) and recorded season-low 3-under 213 to finish in tie for 11th at Bayou City Collegiate Classic (69-74-70-213).
