Carey Glenn Boseley of Lafayette has been charged with attempted first degree murder in connection with last night's officer-involved shooting in Lafayette. But residents near the scene say police have the wrong guy.
Jeromy Aucoin, who works at Halloway's Appliance Store on West Simcoe says the store was robbed last night, and he believes Boseley was trying to thrwart the robbery when shots rang out.
"I assume that's where it all started, he was just looking out for the place and figured he'd go run some fellas off, and it ended up being more than that," Aucoin said.
Lafayette police are still looking for two suspects in connection with last night's shooting. They were called to the intersection of Pierce and West Simcoe Streets around 11:30 p.m. Sunday for reports of a disTurbinece. On arrival officers found three people shooting at one another. Police say the focus then shifted on police, at which point officers opened fire, striking Boseley in the shoulder.
Boseley was treated and released from the hospital at which point he was charged with attempted first degree murder, possession of cocaine, illegal discharge of a firearm and resisting an officer. The other two suspects fled the scene. Aucoin believe it's those two suspects that robbed the appliance store and may have fired at police.
"I'm assuming the cops came and weren't aware of what was going on, maybe viewed him as a threat or what not, but I can't imagine that [Boseley] fired at any officers or anything, he's a real nice standup guy," said Aucoin.
Lafayette Police aren't ruling anything out. The charges filed against Boseley stand as is while the investigation continues.
