You could let us know since 99% of us aren't on the inside as much as you.

That’s exactly the type players you don’t want if you’re going to be successful and back to Ragin Cajun baseball.

Mediocre/lazy people don’t like successful people and successful people can’t stand mediocre people. Let the soft ones go and bring me some DUDES…

A coach isn’t there to put on band-aids and baby these guys. He’s got a job to do and that is win.

I’m fully confident Deggs (Bab/other assistants) will get this program where it needs to be.

(This part isn’t directed at you or anyone specifically.) If y’all think there are a lot of names in the transfer portal now, just wait. Some of the big guns, the workhorses, the big names are going to be public soon. The players do not like him. They aren’t soft, or uncoachable, or whatever else people want to say. Deggs isn’t the leader of men; leaders earn respect. He’s a no explanation guy, a do as I say and don’t question me guy, a prison guard on a power trip type guy when everyone locked up is in for only a week for a petty misdemeanor. These players aren’t kids; they are men who shouldn’t be expected to follow blindly like Deggs is god and you aren’t allowed to question anything. Most players want to play their hearts out for their teammates and their coach. But these guys have spent the year with him and half the team is saying, “I’d rather take my chances, leave behind my girlfriend, and start over with a whole new coach, a whole new team, a whole new city and university.” They aren’t transferring bc of hurt feelings, or being soft, or a bad day. They’re transferring because, even though the right words may be said in front of donors and microphones, Deggs doesn’t have any of the attributes of a respectable coach, and it shows by the way that the guys who have spent thousands of hours with him over the last year, are jumping ship as fast as they can.
So these big names, what schools do you project these guys to land at?

It wouldn’t matter. The players are soft and some of the fans want Tony Robichaux baseball. Whether they are willing to admit it or not.

It's the type of player we are recruiting.. Guys who care more about how their jerseys looks than what their OBP is.

We had a 90% new team this year with the same exact issues as the last 6 years.. what does that tell you ?

Yes, the answer is to turn over the roster every year. Get rid of the softies! 35 __ players and they’re all useless softies!

it’s amazing what some of you will make yourselves believe..

Actually it was just more than 50%.

I do agree part of the issue this past season was the lack of alpha males and I said that on this forum within a week after the season ended. I used the terms "water hose guys" vs. "powerade guys."

But that wasn't the only issue, in my opinion.

I think we've made a mistake in where these guys come from. I say that because you can't be from Minnesota, Arizona or the midwest and have a clue about what it's like to be a Ragin' Cajun.

Look at the transfer portal. How many players that played for Louisiana are from Louisiana, Texas or Mississippi? That would be ONE.

That is not to say we should never take a player from outside the area. Connor Kimple has worked out and he's from Wisconsin. Robertson is from Alabama and Schultz from OKC.

We need guys who will not only play for the name across the chest, but also know what that name is all about. I believe we've erred in that regard. Now, I do not have the list of signees for next year and some of those guys signed early. But I'm willing to bet you from here on out we look closer to home before we decide to bring guys in.

And, I'll agree with something said on this board recently. If you don't want to be a Cajun, or even if you aren't sure you want to be, then you need to leave.

I'm okay with all the names on the portal list. They either weren't good enough, were soft or were unsure of whether they were 100% committed.

    We will replace those guys.

I don't think it matters where you from if you are willing to embrace the culture. We have struggled to find those type of guys. With the same recruiting staff I have very little confidence we will.

    Thank you, Jay.

I understand that you have spoken to some of the players from this year's team, I have not. I have spoken to 3 former members of the 2014 team, and to the man they have said exactly what Jay just posted on this thread. This team had no alpha males on it period. I've been around sports long enough in my life to understand that developing that type of attitude comes along with winning and having the confidence that you can compete against anyone regardless of the stage. And it's no coincidence that some of those players played together on a team that played in the Little League World Series. We had no such players on this year's team.

Now, I do believe the staff bares some responsibility in bringing in athletes that did not fit that culture and not developing some of them. Most of the athletes leaving were signed from JC, or other transfers. They gambled and it didn't pay off. That in itself is not an indictment of the entire staff and their body of work together as a staff. Even in this year's disappointment the team won 32 games and win their division.

You say that it's amazing what some of us make ourselves believe. You have already decided this staff will not get it done and that is your right as a supporter. I've chosen to give this staff an opportunity to rebuild this program and I don't think 1.5 years is enough time to fairly evaluate them. I don't come to that conclusion on my own, I've spoke to Deggs and former players from the 2014 team and these are people that have actually accomplished something, and know what it takes to get the job done.

And I’m not discounting any of that. I believe what Jay posted is certainly part of it. But both can be true.

The staff we have is not building relationships. They’re not building trust. There is not an environment in the clubhouse where guys can be honest with coaches. Players are largely kept in the dark. There is NO reason why pitchers were finding out literally the day before games that they would be starting.

You cant build a program around the pack mentality when you’re lording over guys and micromanaging every move they make. That’s destructive. (We’ve seen JT do that crap for 6 years now.) When your players observe their coach getting more satisfaction out of public speaking and pushing book sales than success on the diamond, that’s a problem. The players think the HC is FOS. And I got that from “Deggs guys”, not the players some here would call “softies.” When you bring up coaches and the immediate response is hard eye roll, you have a major issue.
