Yes would have been an appropriate answer, but NO

By my count our 5 best hitters Osborn Breaux, Fitzgerald, Kimple & Roccaforte. 80% of those kids Diggs brought in. Breaux and Osborn are done. Are the other at risk in the portal?
Top 5 arms are Talley, Burk, Bradford, Wilson & Cooke. Deggs brought in Talley, & Wilson and saw great improvement in Cooke

Decent core to add, now sign more numbers like these.

How many are from the lower division of JUCO ball like LSUE?

Everyone wants UL to get LSU-E kids because they win the world series almost every year. What most folks don't realize is they play Division 2 juco ball.

Since 2010 here is a list of the players that have been on the UL Roster from LSU-Eunice. Not a bad list.

    Austin Bradford
    Dane Dixon
    Gavin Bourgeois
    Zach Lefleur
    Jevan Huval
    Steven Sensely
    Derek Herrington
    Stefan Trosclair
    Will Bacon
    Adam Angelle
    Evan Powell
    Cody Boutte
    Ben Carter
    Sam Carriere
    Jordan Bourque

Not all of these guys were special or contributors, but many were. Gavin Bourgeois, Jevan Huval, Steven Sensely, Stefan Trosclair, Will Bacon, Evan Powell, Cody Boutte and Ben Carter come to mind.

And we’ve had some success with LSUE guys.

But history bares this out: You can not sustain long term success building through the JUCO ranks. I don’t care what Miss St is doing. They are in a league that gets a head start on the rest of college baseball every year, their RPI is always skewed, they have been able to get elite level blue chip talent in the mound for 30 years, and they have access to pipelines that we just don’t. (Their academic practices are also kinda shady but I won’t thread drift)

We need to build this program with majority HS talent.

I think that was part of our problem the last few years in recruiting. We worried about talent and not so much about make up.

And, I'm going to stand by what I said about where kids come from, geographically.

I spoke with someone today who said they talked with the parent of a player. Said the player was stunned by how hard Deggs was on them.

THAT will make kids talk bad about coaches. It will also make me say we need new kids.

We have to find players who understand the Pack system and mentality. Case in point was the kid from Mississippi State who had the game winning hit against Texas. Worked while he waited. Didn't complain. Made the most of his opportunity.

THOSE are the guys we need in this program.
This is something that makes total sense, unfortunately. I expect sometimes coaches think they can fix some of the other stuff that has been ingrained into players, only to learn they really can't. I believe this is the stage we are at now.

Kimple and Fitzgerald actually signed while Robe was still the coach, although he never coached them. Fitzgerald is in th eportal.

Talley also signed when Robe was the coach, I think Wilson also, not sure.

    Correct on all accounts Jay.
It should be pointed out that the lion share of guys that could be returning to this team but have decided to continue their careers elsewhere, originally signed here for Robe.

But if it’s just the players, we shouldn’t see much shake up in the coaching roster. If we are confident in how we’re doing things but just missing on recruits, things will be in tact and roster will be turned over. Question is, how many times will we have to turn over the roster to find “those guys?” Because like we talked about before Jay, I’m not remotely interested in being a JUCO transfer destination. We need to continue building the foundation of our teams via HS talent and I don’t think that’s even up for debate. We mostly all agree on that, I would assume.
We won't be just a JUCO mill, but we will sign more JUCOs under Deggs. Just the philosophy.

But I don't care if they are JUCOs or not. Our 2000 team was full of them.
