Who wrote this inaccurate headline that dozens and dozens of papers nationwide ran with?

Picked up through the Associated Press.

Just shows you how much fake news we have now. It can spread like wild fire.

Name is wrong (should be Louisiana), amount of stadium renovations is wrong (should be 65 Million) The 15 million is only a portion of the renovation.

AP Style Book my determine the use of the name. School may have initiated the press release and may have included the Lafayette. All these outlets do is rip, cut, paste, no read or check for errors. If anything, and I hate to say this, it could have been the fault of campus news department at UL. I don't think Athletics would have sent that out.but I could be wrong.

My understanding is that if it is a university release, then the proper name (@ Lafayette) is used in the first paragraph and/or headline. After that, Louisiana is appropriate. But what do I know

It was the same thing in the Lake Charles mess. You could ask Buckley or Foote and get that information from the AP. It is someone local I am sure. The leaker of the info yesterday? I thought for sure it was the Lake Charles mess changing to fit their narrative.

It wasn't the official release from UL. Just checked that out. Probably the AP guy or office that gathers press releases and then edits before it goes out.

    Turbine,

If you wish you can reach out to the Global AP sports editor and kindly ask if he'd consider a change in our University writing style.

Everything the AP puts out on our University for “Athletics” follows our past and presumably “his” perceived writing style.

The following is his contact information.

AP Global sports editor Michael Giarrusso (mgiarusso@ap.org). 212-621-1640

Mr. Giarrusso is located in New York - I can tell you he is opposed to anything other than “Louisiana - Lafayette”and has told me that “Louisiana” is a pure marketing play and “they” the AP are about factual reporting, not Marketing - so we continue to have no Louisiana Brand recognition for Athletics with the AP for all sports and they specifically use Louisiana- Lafayette and ULL.

It’s really concerning because Nevada - Reno is just Nevada and California - Berkeley is just California on all AP articles - maybe “their” marketing is different than ours?

Also in this article they clearly did not do their homework with the mention of an upgrade valued at only 15 MM which is only a piece of the project.

I wish our Administration would contact this organization at the highest level to correct this issue.

I believe this is our problem with the AP because I have personally spoken with Mr. Giarrusso about this a couple of years ago and nothing has changed.
