  1. UL Softball Summer Ellyson Closes Ragin' Cajuns Career Ranked No. 3 on Program's Wins Listing

Lafayette native Summer Ellyson completed her collegiate career with the hometown Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball program during the 2021 season, and left an lasting mark in the record book.
Ellyson totaled 25 wins in her final campaign as a Ragin' Cajun, increasing her career total to 99 wins. That's a figure which ranks third all-time in program history and trails only the record-119 posted by Brooke Mitchell (2002-05) and 104 from Kyla Hall (1991-94).

The two-time Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year (2019, 2021) and three-time First Team All-Sun Belt performer (2018-19, 2021) is one of only five individuals who have worn the Ragin' Cajuns uniform to reach and surpass the 90-win mark.

In her last run with Louisiana (47-12, 21-3 Sun Belt), Ellyson surpassed recent greats Jordan Wallace and Ashley Brignac and into her final position of third place on the program's career wins chart.

With a final career record of 99-24 (.805) she was tied for first place with UCLA's Rachel Garcia and UCF's Alea White as the NCAA Division I active winningest pitchers at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

The "super senior" year line for Ellyson included a 25-7 overall record with a 2.42 ERA and 191 strikeouts. She surpassed 20 wins for the third time, 100 strikeouts for the third time and limited foes to 145 hits over 179-2/3 innings pitched.

The Ragin' Cajuns ace guided the squad to a repeat conference championship and a steady spot in the Top 20 during the 2021 season by turning in a personal 11-game win streak with a 1.41 ERA from March 21-April 20. She factored into key SBC series wins by claiming two wins over both Troy and Texas State and combining with Kandra Lamb to shutout South Alabama over 21 innings.

Ellyson's 158 appearances, 119 games started, 786-1/3 innings pitched and 868 strikeouts are all totals that rank Top 5 in the Ragin' Cajuns record book.

The rise of Ellyson to becoming Louisiana Softball's ace pitcher began in 2018 with a school-record 20 strikeouts vs. Evansville and a no-hitter of Texas State in the Sun Belt Tournament, highlights of a 23-win season that included her leading the Ragin' Cajuns to the Baton Rouge Regional championship round. It continued with a nation-leading 39 wins that produced Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year and NFCA All-American honors in 2019, and then in 2020 with wins over Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Florida twice serving as the crowning achievements of an 11-1 mark in the COVID-shortened season.

Thanks for the memories. I'll never forget the 20 K game. Catcher caught the last out which was a pop up. Wanted her to drop it so you could get 21 KS!

Good luck in the future! Maybe see you coaching one day?
