The early morning clouds have moved east of Acadiana this morning leaving us with crystal clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine. Dont' be fooled as you head out this morning, because it is still very cool with temperatures not expected to hit the 50s until late morning, and the low 60s this afternoon.
Fortunately the sunshine and the slower wind speeds will make it feel much more comfortable than yesterday. Sunday we struggled into the mid 40s with wind chills in the 30s most of the day making it the coldest day this month. Here in Lafayette, it was the chilliest March 21st on record, tied with March 21st, 1914! Warmer weather that more resembles late March should return tomorrow.
With 2/3 of March 2010 now behind us, we're still running about 4.5 degrees below normal for the month. Average high so far, 66.1, average low, 46.4. For the first 21 days of March we should be running closer to 71 and 51. Even if we go the next 10 days averaging near normal as the weather is predicted to be, we'll still finish March below normal by more than 3 degrees for the high and almost 4 degrees for the low. If we finish below normal for March, this will be the fifth month in a row for cooler than normal temperatures.
