Has it not occurred to anyone that this was going on before but there wasn’t a list? You know how many of these kids are just seeing if they have somewhere to go and if not will just hang it up? Same as before but nobody kept track of the kids that quit or transferred down or even to other schools. People can just track it now so it seems insane. Looking at total number of names in the portal means nothing. How many of them throw their name in the portal for a “what the hell” before hanging it up?

Everything is tracked, who entered, where there last school was, there new school if they get on regardless of level up or level down, if they dont go to a new school. Its all tracked.

That’s what I said, but it never was before so nobody had a clue how many kids across the country wanted to transfer before the portal that you could read. They just transferred or hung it up and without their name listed in a portal nobody really knew or kept track. There are 286 D1 softball teams in the country.

Last time that I looked Marshal had like 12 kids in the portal,basically half of there roster including former Cajun Madi Garay.

Before the portal did you ever have a way to look at schools with mass exodus? No, you didn’t, but it happened...and not all of those kids will end up on teams...their coach just finished her first season, how many new players did Deggs have this year? Glasco after first season Napier?

Maybe not but it was definitely covered in the softball world when big teams like the Cajuns & Oregon had a mass exodus after the coaching changes. The portal makes it 10x easier for a kid to transfer & makes it to where a coach/school has a hard time dragging their feet allowing a kid to transfer. The portal does allow a more public view yes but it also has increased the number-both things can be true.

The difference is a coach didn't have to release you. You had to sit out for one season. With the new rule, it allow any athlete to transfer out one time without sitting out.
