We've got a shot, fellas.
Don't know anything about Georgia Southern other than their record is similar to ours.
Our defense is atrocious at times. That’s gotta clean up.
With that said we are more than capable of winning it all!
Definitely some similarities. Like the Cajuns, they have some power with a similar OB%. They hit a little better for average. Not great defensively, but ok. Tyler Owens (7-2, 3.37, 74.2 IP, 27 BB, 72 BB, .229 OBA) has really been their only reliable starter ... bit of a drop-off after that (he threw yesterday vs. Georgia State). But they have an excellent and deep bullpen, including a closer that is rather salty (6'6" Nick Jones). Nick Jones (1-0, 1.12, 40.1 IP, 5 BB, 63 K, .197 OBA, 17 saves) closed the game vs. Georgia State and was impressive. You do not want to be behind in the 8th inning. And yes, that is not a typo ... 5 BB in 40.1 IP and 63 Ks.
Obviously they have POY Mason McWhorter (.363 with 16 HRs). But they have some others that can do some damage ... including several guys that set the table with .400+ OB% and another double digit HR guy in Noah Ledford (14 HRs).
Georgia Southern probably goes with big Senior RHP Jordan Jackson (4-6, 5.64, 60.2 IP, 13 BB, 66 K, .307 OBA) or Freshman RHP Chase Dollander (4-3, 4.04, 49.0 IP, 28 BB, 64 K, .262 OBA) on Saturday. Dollander had been the Saturday guy, but had some struggles late in the season and Jackson filled that role with success last Friday (moving from #3 in the rotation) with a 3-2 win over UTA (going 6 innings, yielding 3 hits, 2 runs, none earned ... no BB and 9 Ks). I would expect to see the 6'6" Jackson on Saturday.
Brian
What do they do for tomorrow's game?
Good stuff, Brian. Thank you for the breakdown.
It's going to be fun game with obviously a lot on the line. Should be a buzz on Saturday.
Not trying to get too far ahead, but with SOAL opposite us, how poetic would it be to beat the Jags in Alabama for a tournament championship. Again.
