Very odd format indeed. I don't understand the thought process of the extra meaningless game.

Can we stop fighting amongst ourselves? We want the same thing for this team. Yet we can’t be a TEAM. Opinions are fine - stop judging opinions. They’re OPINiONS. They’re just like @$$holz. Everybody’s got em and they amount to ______

Guess I’m just ignorant then as to the purpose of having these to prior games, then.

Why not the simple double elimination tournament?

I think a more traditional format returns next season. I remember reading COVID wAs a reason for this format. Concern was some teams would have few games and that is why everyone qualified. Format was also established to save pitching.

This “pool” format does not save pitching, it in instances uses pitching for unnecessary games.

It was ... and a different format will return. But this does not explain why they made the silly choice to utilize a format with four three team pools this year. What we have is a single elimination tournament all the way through to the tournament title ... with four exhibition games thrown in that do not count. Simply admit it is a single elimination tournament and toss the meaningless window dressing games.

If Cajuns end up playing in one of these meaningless exhibition games I hope that they don’t waste ANY quality pitchers in an attempt to win.

The top four seeds (#1/#2 in the East and #1/#2 in the West) are guaranteed to play in a meaningless game (pool play). We just hope that our meaningless game is meaningless for a good reason.

Let me give a little background on the tournament.

When it was decided to cut the schedule to 24 games for this year and put in a couple of bye weeks, it was voted on to have eight teams in the tournament, two groups of four and play a round robin. You would play three games in four days. The top two teams in each group would advance to the semifinals. The reasoning behind the round robin was with only 24 games there would be a large disparity in conference schedules for each team.

It actually made some sense, although there was a probability there might be some meaningless games.

But then COVID happened. There was a possibility many series would have to be canceled because of COVID and that might make it unfair to some schools. (In retrospect, there was only one series lost, that being App and Coastal.) So, they decided to invite all 12 teams and the result of that is what we have.

As of now, we are going back to 30 league games next year and back to the format we had for 2017-19 with ten teams participating.

Just an observation and kind of thrown in question.....so the teams are picked and placed per season record and results.....what sport gives or has allowed the worst to beat the best in a tourney/ post season play.....football basketball baseball softball???
