So our game decides whether we finish first or second in our division, and we won't play until Wednesday or Thursday of next week based on that?

Correct. And if the Cajuns win, they will get the 7pm slots on Wednesday and Thursday (which could obviously be later in the evening). Else they would get the 3pm slots Thursday and Friday.

As such, teams would be smart to throw the bottom of the staff, saving their pitching for the later tournament games (especially game 2). Meanwhile, you quite possibly have anti-momentum heading into the all-important game 2 ... where the weight of the season rests. Post-season tournaments should not potentially come down to one game at the outset of the tournament, especially for top seeds. But that is where we are with this format.

Too many meaningless games with this format and potentially many teams going home with a single loss. Give me the excitement of double elimination where every single game means something.
Well, we now have the current situation ...

The Cajuns play Texas State on Wednesday at 7pm as the #1 seed from the West and the top seed in Pool C with #4 (East) Appalachian State and #6 (West) Texas State.

That game vs. Texas State will either be meaningless (if Texas State loses to App State on Tuesday), with an elimination game on Thursday vs. App State ... or will be an elimination game (if Texas State defeats App State on Tuesday) with the Thursday game vs. App State meaningless. But one or the other will be an elimination game for the Cajuns with the other game meaningless. If the Cajuns win the meaningful game, they will advance to the semis on Saturday.

There should never be a meaningless game in the postseason .

So basically, if Texas State wins on Tuesday and we beat them on Wednesday, we will automatically advance regardless of what we do on Thursday against App.

Yes ... and if we lose Wednesday (with a Texas State win Tuesday) we are eliminated in our first game.

    Yeah, that’s absurd.

How can that happen when UL is a 1 seed?

The seeding only comes in if it’s a tiebreaker. The highest seed would then advance.
