UL Baseball Final Week of Sun Belt Play

Here are the standings heading into the final week:

    EAST: USA 14-7, GS 12-9, Troy 12-9, APP 9-9, GSU 10-11, CCU 6-12

    WEST: UTA 12-9, UL 11-10, LR 10-11, TXST 9-12, ULM 9-12, ASTATE 9-12

This week's schedule (all games Thur-Sat)
    UTA at Georgia Southern
    Troy at Louisiana
    Little Rock at Georgia State
    Texas State at Coastal
    ULM at ASTATE
    USA at APP

No one has clinched anything yet. In the East, South Alabama can finish no lower than fourth, and Coastal will be sixth unless they sweep and Georgia State gets swept. In case of a tie between CCU and APP, those teams did not play each other so the tie would be broken by their record whoever the #1 seed is.

South Alabama holds the tiebreaker over Troy, Georgia Southern has the tiebreaker over South and Troy has the tiebreaker over Georgia Southern.

In the West, just about everyone can finish everywhere from first to sixth. Only three games separate the six teams.

As far as the Cajuns are concerned, a series win would put them in the top two UNLESS Little Rock sweeps Georgia State. If there are tiebreakers, the Cajuns win tiebreakers vs. UTA, stAte and ULM. They lose tiebreakers to Texas State and Little Rock.

Here's what will happen to the Cajuns next week:

    #1 seed: Wed 7pm against 6 West, Thu 7pm vs. 4 East

    #2 seed: Thurs 3pm vs. 5 West, Friday 3p vs. 3 East

    #3 seed: Tue 4pm vs. 5 East, Fri 7pm vs. 2 East

    #4 seed: Tue 9a vs. 6 East, Thurs 11a vs. #1 East

    #5 seed: Tue 12:30 vs. 3 East, Thur 3pm vs. 2 West

    #6 seed: Tue 7:30 vs. 4 East, Wed 7pm vs. #1 West

Lots of scoreboard watching this weekend.

Outside of the uncharacteristic Coastal record, I can't believe the parity in this league.

Parity is a very nice word for nobody put in the work it takes to be better than average. Be it practice, execution, coaching or recruiting. The fact we're in a one bid situation says a lot to support this position.

That is well put. Really wacky year with all the guys who came back with the free year of eligibility. Overall the conference has gone down the past few years. At one time we were up in the top 7-8 conferences but it hasnt been that way the past few years.

No matter how bad the league is perceived to be, you almost never get this kind of parity.

Every team but one within 4 games of each other.

  9. UL Baseball UL baseball faces tough pitching decisions this week with Sun Belt tourney looming

For UL coach Matt Deggs, the more simple things seem to be getting in the Sun Belt West Division standings, the more complicated they get with his decision-making process for this coming weekend.

In regards to the tournament, could be playing Monday depending where we end up in the standings.
