I think that "Athletic Improvement" fee may have been the fee to build and maintain the IPF. As I understand it that money cannot be used for anything else.

Im a recent graduate, the students at UL already pay athletic fees. We voted and self imposed the fee increases 2 or 3 times during my 9 years there. The previous imformation about ULS not allowing student fees is incorrect.

No. It's not. UL students have not voted for an athletic fee. The IPF was built using an auxiliary funds fee. It is a loophole. The dance team practices in it to legitimize that it is an auxiliary and not an athletic facility

Not sure, but these numbers came straight from my Spring 2011 Statement of Account.

Lets have a vote on it then. If the students won't support such an initiative, then the situation is hopeless. It will be a decade or more before RCAF will raise the kind of money a $150-$200 per semester fee would raise.

FIU charges $7.31 per hour just for football and another $6.90 per hour for the rest of the athletic department. FIU's football fee brings in $321,640 per credit hour and $3,859,680 per semester and $7,719,360 per year.

Not some measly $15 bucks per semester, that is not a fee for athletics. Now if it were $15 per credit hour then I would agree that we have a fee, but we do not.

Im all for a fee to help out athletics but I think the vote would be interesting especially due to the recent tuition increases and rumors of future increases. Then again, having been involved with stuff like this and the knowledge of how most of it works, in the past when these votes have come up very few students actually vote. I think only a few hundred actually voted for the New Union fee.
