Wasnt the pitching staff suppose to be the bright spot and carry this team?

Pitching is 2nd in the league ERA and 1st in strikeouts. The pitching is the bright spot, but good pitching only gives the hitters a chance to win, at which they have been woefully inconsistent.
We are 12-11 and pitching has failed (not given us a chance) 3 times, LSU, TCU, So. Miss. That's not bad. We certainly had several chances to win today. Left bases juiced twice. Pitchers didn't leave 12 on base.
Cajuns batters struggled to get a clutch hit, and the pitching had issues with walks in a 5-3 loss in game 2 to Coastal Carolina.
Progress was made, but still no cigar.
It’s getting to be a troubling trend for the UL Ragin’ Cajuns: Play great on Friday and then not being able to follow it up the rest of the weekend.
That was our game. We will not be that good if we can’t ever get that clutch hit.
We need to be drinking out the water hose again!!!
While i dont disagree with what you are saying about the offense, other than our friday night guy we have been very suspect despite what the numbers say. In fact the numbers should reflect a downward trend in the past 10 or so games compared to the first 10. We have been in almost every game thus far and a clutch hit here or there would reflect a much better record. But i feel the pitching hasnt been a sure thing
I think we agree. It's basically a .500 team, so the weaknesses in each area have made themselves known.
The team ERA has gone up a half run in the last 5 games, so yes pitching has been less successful.
If Durkes and Angel get better, we can win close games and be the pitching staff we thought we had.
Some of our best hitters are not the best defenders, so that's a problem too.
We sitting around 60 RPI. We can still have a great season, but we need a lot of games like Friday, starting very soon.
"Some of our best hitters are not the best defenders, so that's a problem too."
That has been a big problem; 3rd and 2nd base primarily but yesterday both of those positions were played well, in the field and at the plate. Maybe now with some confidence and repetition the team will be able to play more consistently.
GEAUX CAJUNS!
So Hayden Durke did not pitch at all this weekend. Was it injury related or was it just possibly moving him to a mid week starter for later in the season. Interesting that we got such good pitching performances from Austin Perrin and Jack Burk, guys who have both contributed as starters in the past. We need to get some good production out of guys who were expected to be in a starting roll this year.
Carter Robinson last year was 2-1 with a 1.02 ERA and opponents hit .211 off of him
Carter Robinson this year is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA and opponents hit .261 off of him
Numbers are not bat for C-Rob, but he doesn't look as good as last year. Short starts and getting pulled early in games.
Conner Angel was 1-2 last year with a 3.74 ERA and opponents hit .221 off of him
Conner Angel this year is 0-1 with a 6.48 ERA and opponents hit only .194 off of him
His ERA is inflated, he has only started 1 game this year, last year in 17 games he had 4 starts. it could be that he is more set up to be a starter not a bullpen guy and he is getting used to coming out of the pen.
Will Moriarty this year is 0-1 with a 12.60 ERA and opponents are hitting .318 off of him
Will Mariarty last year was 1-2 with a 4.66 ERA and opponents hit .333 off of him.
Could be the same as Conner as he had 4 starts last year, this year he has not had 1.
Hayden Durke, looked amazing to start the season and now can't seem to get anyone out past 2 innings. He is throwing allot of pitches in the games he starts and getting in trouble by the 2nd inning.
Meanwhile really strong pitching from Arrighetti as our only really solid consistent starter, but guys who have stepped up nicely either as starters or out of the pen are Burk, Nelson, Talley, Perrin, Wilson, Havard, Shultz and Menard. Conner Cooke makes me so nervous, he is either unhittable or can not throw strikes. When is his unhittable he is one of our best pitchers out of the pen, when he is bad, he is really bad, examples are vs Nicholls, TCU, LSU and Tulane. In those 4 games he gave up 13 walks in 7 and a 1/3 innings. But in other games he has almost been unhittable, like Houston Baptist 1 inning no hits and no walks, Southern Miss 1 inning no hits and no walks, Coastal 2.1 innings 4 hits 1 walk, no earned runs.
Durke has freshmanitis. He'll be fine.
