And those same teams have to play the same 100+ RPI teams we do. It’s a fallacy to think we’re immune just by reputation. We’ll know more at the end of the season...or after the next 6 games even.

RPI of 50+ won’t get an SBC team an at large. Book it.

is it safe to guess that in every previous year the team that finished season with an rpi of #1 was in the top 45 in opening rpi of the next season

No because it is a strict statistical calculation. No one has any type of advantage from prior years because that is not part of the equation. It is also the reason RPI doesnt become meaningful until you and the rest of the teams have played enough games to get a valid sample size.
