Not sure any favor was needed. Robe figured if he got Talbot, the hitting transformation commenced by Deggs would continue.

Tony tried to hire Talbot in 2012/13...Talbot was working on his family life at the time and recommended Deggs and vouched he had his issues under control

A truckload of coaches that were successful and currently IN the game would have loved the job.

It not the most normal thing to continually go to the reclaimed bin for a hitting coach.

I have a distinct memory of Deggs backing Talbot.

Robe went after Talbot as what he thought was the best avenue to continue with the Deggs hitting system. So, all you say may be correct, however none were the driving force.

From what I hear Deggs is trying to copy Tony's style as a way to honor him. Which is great but imo cutting your own path and growing a program Tony help build is a much better way to honor his legacy.
Yeah, I think it is way too early to tell, but I always thought that the decision was made for a lot of sentimental reasons, in a time of great shock and sadness. I have been part of this same error on the personal side, and while not huge, we realize now that we did not make the best of decisions while also bearing the grief of a sudden death of a parent. This situation always reminded me of that issue.
I can't remember his name but there was an assistant coach at I believe Moo St that I was really pushing for: same age, mentality etc of Napier, and I just thought that would've been the better move....if you take out all the emotions.
But again, I still think Deggs is a great coach, and has plenty of time to prove himself here.

Jake Gautreau I was also a bigger supporter of hiring him as HC he was assistant coach of the year in 2019.

To many Yankees on the team with all the baseball talent in Louisiana and surrounding states that’s just ludicrous.
