FULLERTON, Calif. – No. 1 Washington’s Danielle Lawrie proved effective in the pitcher’s circle and the batter’s box as No. 23 Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team fell to the Huskies, 8-0, in five innings on Friday at the Judi Garman Classic.
With the loss, UL falls to 16-9. Washington improves to 24-2 after losing to Depaul before facing the Cajuns.
Lawrie struck first for the Huskies in the first inning. After putting a runner on second base, thanks to an error by the Cajuns, Lawrie hit a home run to left field to take an early 2-0 lead.

Britni Soria hit a triple to put the Cajuns in scoring position in the second inning, but three consecutive outs would close out the inning without Soria crossing the plate.

In her next at bat, Lawrie would deliver again, hitting her second two-run home run of the afternoon.

In the fifth inning, Ashley Ray lead off with a double and advance to third on a sacrifice bunt by Vallie Gaspard. But Lawrie would post her seventh strikeout to end the inning.

In the bottom of the frame, the Huskies put the game away after an RBI-single and a walk-off three run home run to seal the run-rule win.

Lawrie held the Cajuns to three hits, striking out seven to improve to 15-0 on the season.

Cuevas fall to 9-3 on the year after allowing seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

The Cajuns will face Purdue on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. PST. The two teams met earlier this season at the Houston Marriott Invitational with UL grabbing a 7-6 win over the Boilermakers.
