A strong cold front will barrel through the region Saturday evening and Saturday night bringing thunderstorms along with it. Some of these storms could bring damaging winds and heavy downpours. The chances for severe weather here in Acadiana are "slight" according to the Storm Prediction Center. Somewhat better chances for severe weather will be over central and northern Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and western Mississippi.
A deep trough in the upper levels will swing southward toward the area tomorrow. This will strengthen a low pressure area over western Oklahoma. This low will mature, and cut itself off from the main flow by Saturday evening. A strong disTurbinece embedded in the jet stream over Mexico will zing northeastward across the area just ahead of the cold front. Warm and somewhat moist air will be in place as these come together late Saturday afternoon. The result will be a line of storms developing between Dallas and Oklahoma city Saturday afternoon. The line will move eastward and extend southward, so by Saturday evening I expect that line of storms to enter our area. After midnight, the front will push through, and the cold air will rush in immediately behind it. Storms will end and temperatures will drop at least 15 degrees, maybe 20 with the passing of the front. Sunday will be blustery with highs only in the 50s. Sunshine will warm our Monday into the 60s, and we should be back in the low 70s by Tuesday.
