Louisiana Campus Proposed Land Swap Would Enable City to Build New Fire Station No. 5 at UL

Plans for a new Lafayette Fire Station No. 5 may come closer to fruition this week when the University of Louisiana System’s board reviews a proposed land swap involving University of Louisiana at Lafayette property on Cajundome Boulevard.

Would this get us closer to joining the two campuses ?
I think UL also needs the lot across the st from the fire station where the old
    JRs
    Celebrity’s
    Esprit
Bars were in the 1980s (for all us old timers)
    Is that correct?

Maybe if he has to stare at it everyday, the Fire Marshall will decide to condemn Cajun Field. ...

Then the State can come up with emergency funding to build a new stadium.

    HEY! A guy can dream...

JRs, that is going back but it was also The Sting, Winn Dixie (I think) and others.

There are businesses in it now so maybe not available.

The Sting! That brings back some memories! Disco dancing, platform shoes, bell bottoms, goldfish eating contests, some fights and lots of pretty girls!

Yeah, I have that question too: the article does not give an exact location of where it would go on Cajun Dome Blvd, just at it's intersection with Johnston. I would assume along the coulee? But not sure if there is enough room there...long piece of land, but not very deep. I would not like to see it on the same side of Blackham. Wherever it goes I hope they make look very "UL" since it will be on campus land....maybe some red bricks with arches?

And to answer the other question, I don't think this does anything to link the 2 campuses....just gives us more breathing room on the main campus, a more unified look at that location, and some more oppurtunity for retail space.

Sounds like you got stung at the sting a few times.

Re-read the article; it only says "on Cajundome Boulevard" and later the article states it would give access near Johnston Street. That could mean the barn area.

That could also mean behind the Hilton or next to the Light Center.

Sorry, but that's not what the article says:

"A new Fire Station No. 5, in turn, would be built on land near Blackham Coliseum and the university’s new walking track. That would place the new station near the major intersection of Johnston Street and Cajundome Boulevard."

I suppose that could mean the barn area, but pretty much rules out anything past that.
