A local beauty queen’s road to the crown will be featured in a new TLC show, American Pageants. The show airs on March 26 at 9 pm.
The contestants from Opelousas will be featured in the show.
The winner of this year’s Yambilee Pageant, Imani Guillory, always dreamed of holding the title, but this year she made it happen.
"It means so much to me because this is the one festival and organization that I want to represent," Imani Guillory said.
The Yambilee pageant was the first pageant that Imani has ever competed in, but she says she’s been training all of her life.
"I had my own TV show for a few years, I think I started when I was 7 and it was called Kids View and I would go around and interview local politicians and local business owners," Imani said.
Being a pageant queen isn’t easy it takes lot of make up and clothes to make the cut.
“Every single day you will not see me leave the house without makeup on and if I do, I have a big hat or shades or a hoodie or something.
Having the right clothes, shoes and jewelry isn’t the only requirement for being queen, you must have an extensive knowledge of yams.
Imani said “I studied more than I would even study in school. I studied yam facts and sweet potato facts.
Pageants aren’t cheap either, but her supportive parents say it’s worth every penny.
"Anything that i can support her in and give her a new experience in, it is worth the cost," her mother, Yvonne Guillory, said.
Imani planed to retire her pageant shoes after this year. She says no pageant will mean as much to her.
