As far as a look at how we stack up against all 350 D-1 teams, the Cajuns are up to #80 in the RPI this week. Now that really doesn't mean anything as the committee is supposedly using the NET ranking which has us all the way down at #162. That is way too much variance in my eyes, I really think somewhere in that 80-100 range is more accurate.
I glanced at the NET ratings earlier today. Texas State was a little ahead of us before the weekend. And even after the sweep, they’re still ahead of us. GAST leads the conference coming in at 114 if I remember correctly. Mid major is just the hook for “all you others” to swallow one day and accept “know your place”. Not in my lifetime, the greed of P-5 football will enter basketball, and accepting the mid major tag just makes it easier.

If Dr Maggard believes it is good for our athletic program, then I am good with it, until proven otherwise. Sure he has made mistakes, but been right more often than not. Do recruits like it ... I am guessing yes. Does it favor the P5, probably so.

If/when the majority of our programs are being spoken about as NY6 bowl or top mid-major that is going to be a very good problem to have. In the meantime, let's take care of what we can control.

NET is based off quadrants. We really only played Baylor who was in Q1 out of conference. Sun Belt is a bad basketball league so we can't even get a Q2 win in conference. Makes it tough to get above 100. Don't think either RPI or NET is going to be very good barometer of how good we are or any team in the NCAA this year.

It's not secret that for mid-Majors the prognosticators pretty much just plug in whoever is leading the conference. Still nice to see, though.
A 15 seed is a lower tier’mid major’. Them’s the facts. Actually how can you be a mid major at the bottom of the pool of teams.

At this point, just continue to win the games on the schedule in front of us, stay healthy, get better each week. And then, we can position ourselves in the conference tournament to make the Big Dance. Our weakness over the past decade has been the conference tournament. We have the team this year to get over that hump.

I always thought they just lumped anyone who was outside of a P5 into the Mid-major category for basketball. Whether that's the SunBelt, Patriot, SWAC, whatever.

I always thought the 15 & 16 seeds were the basketball equivalent of the FCS. I guess you could go down a few more spots, too, until you hit the at large "named" teams that start to come in around 11 and 12.

I was curious to see where the Cajuns landed the past when we made the Dance. I only went back to the 90s.

    1992:13
    1994:11
    2000:13
    2004:14
    2005:13
    2014:14

At this point, though. It would be great just to make the tournament.
