I am no fan of Authemont, but I can't imagine why he would hold admissions down. I don't know, but it is possible that the introduction of admission standards, and the rise of community colleges has a lot to do with slow growth.

I will say this, admissions plateaued around 1977-78 when he started cutting and limiting sports programs (literally and financially), then picked up again in the wake of when Brian Mitchell was in school.

    Athletics is the best advertising.

Didn’t the metro population peak for a while after the first oil bust? Then the baby boom was over, then restricted admissions. I’m not at all surprised that the growth has been slowed consistently. And now more people are opting for skilled trades over a degree in history.

According to the chart the population of Lafayette is up about 50% and the student about 25-30 percent. Guess the restrictions limits growth. We know that many juco students never matriculate to the university. Having said that under the old open admissions there’s probably more dropouts because of many reasons. Being prepared being one of the biggest along with money issues.
