Thread: 2021 RB situation

    UL Football 2021 RB situation

What is going to be our running back situation.... are we going to go into the portal and grab one to help bridge the loss of regas and most likely Mitchell?

Look, I think we have a pretty good running back corps with or without Ragas and Mitchell. Will it be as good, no F'N way, these two guys were special.

Chris Smith is the heir apparent and he is pretty darn good. He had 62 carries for 350 yards and 5.6 yards a carry. Emani Bailey will be their as well, he had 10 carries for 60 yards and 1 TD in limited duty, but they really like him. TJ Wisham will be back healthy to play and also the little bit I have seen of Michael Orphey who had a huge injury in HS 2 years ago I am impressed with.

We also have 2 pretty good signees coming in if they both make it. Dre'lyn Washington has committed and Kendrell Williams has committed but remains unsigned as of now.

I think if something would fall in their lap, then yes the transfer portal or JUCO would be a possibility, but as for now, I would assume Coach Napier is pretty happy with Smith and Bailey or one of the others as his RB Corps in 2021.

I was told by a players dad that Mitchell told the team he was coming back. He also told us the Ragas was going pro. So I'm still holding out hope that Mitchell comes back.

That would be huge! Sure losing Ragas is a blow, but with 2-3 guys with prior experience and ready to step in, we'll be good. Pair that with Levi and what I think is most of the receiving groups coming back, we'll be stacked at the skill positions.

I’m hearing the opposite. That’s from people who are advising him. Useful life for a RB in the NFL is limited. He needs to take advantage while he can.

I agree, he would be ill advised to come back for another year.

We'll be fine. Bailey will replace Ragas production. Saw Bailey a lot during his senior year at Denton-Ryan. The kid has "it". He's no burner, but he can find holes and get big gains.

Hate to say it but if i'm Mitchell i turn pro now, how much can he really improve his stock by coming back?

Not much. But maybe he’s enjoying his life as a college football player. I get the risk and revenue lost forever. But maybe some things are more important to a young man who believes they are never going to be limited.

Ragas leaving is a big loss, he was a load to stop. I haven't seen anyone yet that has that kind of power on the team. I like several of our other RB's, they just are different than Ragas. I love Chris Smith, give him a crease, and he is gone. The problem is, he is tackled somewhat easily at the line of scrimmage. I would expect Mitchell to leave also, he has nothing else to prove at the college level and injury is too much a risk. If he wants the NFL, then he should go.

Would another year help his draft stock from 5th round to 3rd round?

Regardless of any rumors, if Mitchell comes back you have a real story. Which is my way of saying I'll be completely shocked if he does.
