I actually have some insight here!
I was in Nashville yesterday and listening to local sports radio. They had an Auburn insider on.
They mentioned the fact that Gus was never a favorite of major boosters. One main guy was always trying to push Gus out for Steele with support of other boosters.
They were talking candidates and Billy never came up. Boosters want an Auburn connection.
One of the talking heads was talking about how much influence the donors have on coaching selections....and firings.
