BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Five people have applied to be the state's new legislative auditor, to lead the office that reviews the financial books of state and local government agencies.
Among the applicants is Daryl Purpera, who is working as the interim legislative auditor, since Steve Theriot retired in November. Purpera has worked in the auditor's office for 26 years.
Other applicants include Perry "Jeff" Smith, director of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness under former Gov. Kathleen Blanco; Jullin Renthrope, manager of the
legislative auditor's New Orleans office; Dudley Garidel Jr., internal audit director for the state Department of Education; and Timothy Palmatier, chief deputy judicial administrator for the
Louisiana Supreme Court.
A panel of lawmakers will interview the candidates March 29, the opening day of the legislative session, and make recommendations.
The full House and Senate will choose the auditor.
