You leave Russell alone. Between him and Wilson we’ve got a great one two punch
So a day late and a dollar short yet again
They were thinking Wesley could contribute there. Probably his injury history should have been taken into consideration more. To be fair, AU had 7 assists and one turnover last night. We can win with him doing that every night. Also, we are not running the same guy at point every possession. Three guys alternate there as Malik does it at times. Personally I would like to see more mid range shots designed for Malik.
At his best Wesley is a backup point guard. As for Au? If you’re going to defend him as a point guard playing out of position? What’s the point? He’s having trouble at both IMO. If he’s having trouble with scoring because he doing something else quit the something else.
As for point? Both Russell and Malik are better. I’m not looking at stats it’s more the awkward spots when he’s got the ball.
None of this is a player problem. It’s on a head coach who constantly has problems getting and keeping the right players for the right job on the court.
Perhaps the new guy from the California Prep School can help there. We will find out soon enough. They really want Malik handling the ball in transition. Sometimes in the half court they use AU to simply get the ball to Cedric at a spot he can drive or shoot. The prettiest play of the game last night was the pocket pass AU made to Awkuba for a dunk off a pick and roll play. Granted we need to see a lot more of those. At this stage, despite his shortcomings, we have no choice but to use him to handle the ball at times. Apparently he also has been dealing with knee issues but is fighting through the pain at this time. Nothing serious there but it may be a factor in his play.
