I know I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer...but am I the only 1 to read this article and come away still wondering what a current player has to do in order to wear a retired number??
Bo said "any player."
I don't know if that was a generic statement or actual.
I’m kind of like you, what’s the criteria? Surely someone who is creating their own history wants their own place, and newcomers get to wear legendary numbers?
The plan isn’t actually made clear in the article. I’m fine with the concept of sharing a number but details should matter.
I thought the rule was 15 years. Wasnt that outlined in the levi lewis discussion? Or is every sport different?
How about wear the design of the time frame when original player wore it. A throw back-esque event with many players wearing different style jerseys at same time
Nm
Except for the fun of looking up in the rafters I've never been a big fan of retired jerseys.
Still, only if this is a MoneyMaker for the program, do I see the point.
With only 15 players they should never run out of numbers.
as far as college basketball goes you are correct. The rule has always been that the official needs to be able to call the number on one hand. So the 55 would be the highest possible number. So basically it can be the following:
0-5
10-15
20-25
30-35
40-45
50-55
The NBA used to be like this, but in recent years has allowed crazy numbers including 99.
So in reality College basketball teams only has 36 available numbers for their use.
