APR is not affected for any sport if a player leaves with a GPA of 2.6 or above. They may even adjust this with all the people moving on this spring.
With so many players hitting the portal before the semester ends, there has to be concern as the writing on the wall becomes apparent there is no greener pasture and the barn door has been closed, apathy will set in for the remaining educational time. Just watch, it's coming. It will be across the board.
So with Ty Harper coming in and the present players leaving town even quicker, what good does this do us. Same problem every year. We may have a talented starting 5, but no depth off the bench. So, the players get tired by the end of the game, and the play decreases. Not because of talent, but because they are spent by the end of the game and the end of the season.
Plus, injury to starters kills our season immediately, because, again, no depth. So as happy as I am to see a talent like Ty Harper coming to the Cajuns, I wonder why the heck would he want to transfer here. Butts and Wilson are leaving, and these were starters or back ups with serious playing time. So what is the common denominator?
Greg Williams from Lafayette Christian is transferring home after 3 years at St Johns. Also freshman Joe Charles from Carencro and Carter Dominque (walk on) from STM will be coming in. Up until the recent Wilson and Butts announcements we were at the scholarship limit. The portal is at unprecedented highs due to the new transfer rule and Covid eligibility. There is also the chance Russel and Gueye could return and not count against the scholarship limit, although most think they will be moving on.
Marlin did suspend Ty for two games last year so I’m not surprised he’s gone. Most players don’t take kindly to discipline. But then again, a few years back the vast majority of the team could have been suspended but one guy took the fall.
