    UL Basketball Ty Harper

Just saw a Tweet that Harper has signed with us. All I know is he is a 6'3" long athletic guard. Tweet said ESPN rated him No. 100 in this class. Will try to do more research.

From what I can tell, he is originally from Georgia but playing in California now. He may be playing at a Prep school this year out West. Tweet from Jeff Goodman says his final eight were Cal, Grand Canyon, Nevada, New Mexico, USC, Washington State, and Virginia Tech.

Article linked below speaks highly of him.

Interesting. One article above has him as a 3 star and the other article has him as a 4 star. Equally as interesting is that he has eligibility for either 2020 or 2021. Wonder which it will be?

Judging from first glance with above articles, this could well be the best non-big Marlin has signed. His skill set, per the article, could launch him to SBC MVP and the Cajuns to some NCAA wins. But now, I need to put down the crack pipe...

I think he is at a prep school right now, probably why it is showing 2020 vs 2021. He finished HS and was eligible to play in 2020, but chose to go to prep school first and that is why he will be eligible in 2021 instead. Also probably why he has two different ratings as well.

Actually just noticed he is a 4 star on ESPN, but a 3 star on 247sports.com. That is the difference, but I believe I am accurate about the prep school thing.

From what I can tell, he graduated from HS in 2020. He is playing at a Prep School in California now. Assuming Covid is under control and things are somewhat back to normal, I expect him to enroll here for the summer semester in 2021.

  11. UL Basketball Four-Star Recruit Ty Harper Signs With Louisiana

Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Basketball coach Bob Marlin added to an already solid 2020-21 recruiting class on Tuesday when he announced the addition of four-star recruit Ty Harper signed a National Letter of Intent during the Early Signing Period.

Harper, a 6-foot-4 combo guard, was rated as the No. 6 overall recruit in the state of California and the No. 100-rated overall recruit nationally by ESPN. The native of Norcross, Ga., who was the No. 22-rated shooting guard in the country, joined Carencro's Joe Charles as signees for the 2020-21 season.

"We are excited about the addition of Ty Harper to the Ragin' Cajuns Basketball family," Marlin said. "His ability to affect winning in multiple ways will help our team. He is a humble guy who works extremely hard and has an intense passion for improvement. His speed and athleticism allow him to get downhill quickly and put pressure on the defense."

Harper, who averaged 15.5 points per game as a senior, helped Santa Clarita (Calif.) Christian to a 24-6 record, the 2020 CIF-Southern Sectional Division 2AA title and a No. 28 national ranking by Max Preps. Harper was named the Division 2AA Player of the Year and was a first-team All-Southern California and All-Area selection.

"Ty has done a tremendous job becoming a player who can score at all three levels," Marlin added. "His shot is a weapon that doesn't allow defenders to back off. We believe Ty will fit our style of play perfectly."

Looking for video of Harper I found this one pretty interesting. From early last season when his Santa Clarita Christian squad was matched up against Sierra Canyon, the #2 ranked team in the country. Sierra Canyon may be best known for Bronny James and Zaire Wade (yes sons of LeBron and Dwayne) but their roster is full of nationally ranked players. Other notables are class of 2020 national #5 Ziaire Williams (now at Stanford), and #6 BJ Boston (now at Kentucky) and Class of 2022 national #3 Amari Bailey. In the video Harper (#10 in the white uniforms) clearly holds his own and in fact he led all scorers with 28 points in the game. Santa Clarita is outmatched down the stretch and Harper has a few turnovers against the press but overall a pretty impressive performance on a very big stage for a high school game.
