Thread: Muschamp FIRED ... Napier contacted

Sometimes a coach takes good raw material and do what hasn’t ever been done. Like whatever is happening here. USC is fine for getting the talent he needs

I've lived in both Columbia and Lafayette. As far as quality of life, Columbia is a decent place. The commutes into and out of town to the burbs is brutal as is the summer (year round for that matter) heat. It does have much to offer. There is an enormous amount of pride of state and of USC. They hate all things Clemson, I mean HATE...Great HS talent in the area, Irmo and Lexington always produce talent.

That being said, there are similarities with Lafayette/Acadiana. However, as nice as Columbia is, I believe Lafayette is head and shoulders above Cola. He is still raising a young family. I think that will play 70% or more into his decision should USC make a run at him.

While most of what I've read has him as a top 5 candidate, I don't see it happening. USC is a train wreck and dumpster fire all rolled into one. Does Billy want to go through a rebuild (a total rebuild and culture change)? Hud did not leave the cupboard bare for him, not so sure of that at USC. He'll have 10x the support, stadium is full regardless of how the 'Cocks are playing. I just don't see this as the perfect fit for Napier. Also, if he goes there and fails, he may never get another SEC head coaching gig. Does the risk out weigh the reward.

I hope Napier doesn't take the job for his own sake. USCe is a dead end.

I like Billy and I think he is an excellent coach and a better human being. That said, if he decides to leave this time, I would not blame him. After all money talks. I also have confidence in Dr. Maggard, who has shown to be an excellent evaluator of talent. With the players that can come back next season, many up and comers would want a shot at coaching this team. In the meantime, I am not going to fret about it.

I agree, your point has a lot of weight. Gonna be interesting.
His home state is Georgia. He played college football at Furman which is in South Carolina.

Who’s to say we don’t lose both of them almost on the same day. I imagine that some schools are questioning their AD more than the coaches. After all the present coaching staff is probably their responsibility.

I’m not worried, but it’s something that might happen.
