Not really no receiver
Not really no receiver
I hate to lose Napier but if he gets another job hopefully the new coach will open it up for a best QB competition if we can keep the younger guys. Anyway we won the west today so nothing else matters GEAUX CAJUNS
One or two times a half LL is going deep and is amongst always in close range of a huge completion or making the completion. This forces defenses to honor the risk.
Well we know Elijah leaving . Ragas please stay...
Why would ragas stay? I think he will be drafted around 6th-7th round. If given the chance to make it in NFL go for it, especially at RB
It's really a shame that we are still having this argument after 2 years of nearly unprecedented success by this team.
The posters who show a bit of irritation with some of Lewis's "brainfarts" he seems to have at times doesn't bother me much. Those who say he needs to tuck that ball in and run more when there's space vs. trying to still throw are reasonable critiques.
But we have others who seem to think Napier isn't playing the best QB on the roster, that he's so loyal to Levi he refuses to have a real QB competition in the Spring.
Coach Napier isn't looking to retire in Lafayette. We all know that. He's a young, upcoming coach who is trying to make a large a splash here, showing he can build and winner and have them execute on the field, in order to land a P5 (preferably SEC, it seems) HC job. So to believe and say/type that he is playing some "SWAC-caliber QB" due to loyalty instead of playing the QB on the roster who gives us the best chance to win every single game is absurd.
The two most important qualities in a QB are accuracy and the ability to extend plays. Levi is way above average in extending plays and slightly above average (For a college QB) in accuracy. That adds up to him being a difference maker for us. He is probably as good or slightly better than pre-injury Broadway and is head and shoulders better than all the guys who came after Broadway. If you look at our QB position historically the only time a backup exceed the performance of an established starter was Broadway replacing Gautier....and that was due to injury.
Agree, it's not loyalty, it's ball security and confidence. Billy has mentioned it many times before and with some discussions I've been privy to. LL gives Billy confidence in being fully prepared for each game plan and he's less likely to turn the ball over.
Having said that, this makes it unlikely we'll see someone else replace LL based on performance. I was hoping this game with central Ark would present a situation where we would get a good look at our back-ups, due to the game being in hand early in the second half. But, that won't happen and if the ULM game could be called. So it will be on to Spring competition where it will be pretty darn hard to displace LL. Hope we don't lose too many QB's over this extended eligibility decision.
I also like McDowell, who has great size, running ability and I thought had really good throwing mechanics when he first arrived. I haven't been able to see a practice or be in the stadium early enough to see him this year, so no idea how his development has gone.
I agree with part of your comments, but I don't think he as good as the pre-injury Broadway, but as always is an opinion board. I think Broadway could make any of throws you want accurately and as much as I appreciate LL, he's not always accurate even on completed throws.
