Thread: Kobe Julien, Durey Cadwell To Miss Part of Upcoming Season

The issue we've had is not with incoming transfers. I'm always willing to improve our roster if its the right move by bringing in others. The issue I've had and what concerns me is the number of guys who have exited our program and continue to do so, many of them not necessarily voluntary. I can understand losing a guy here and there due to wanting more playing time but when you are bringing someone in and then asking them to leave the next year, you have to question some things.

He’s leaned heavily, yet he’s without much success.

It’s one thing to rely on transfers. It’s another to be anything more than mediocre.

Technically the season hasn't started yet, but I prefer career judging in the off season.

Marty did recruit a few JUCO players however. Guys like Carroll Boudreaux, Cedric Mackeon, and Shawn Griggs helped win a couple of championships. I also seem to remember Michael Allen (one of the best players we have had here) playing three years but coming from a JUCO. Robert Lee used some guys academically ineligible their first year. One of those, LaRyan Gary is a successful coach in his own right today. There is no perfect way to build a roster.

Most who have left recently have left involuntarily. Reasons have varied but it does show we missed on some guys in the past. This past year the guys who left have been replaced by guys we simply think are more talented. Time will tell if that analysis is correct.

Didn’t Michael Allen transfer from Kentucky?

Juco I believe after he’d signed with a div 1 program. Maybe Western Kentucky.

I knew Michael was special after he nailed a late big three against the Hilltoppers to help us win a big game in 1992, his first year here. Moving on to this year's team, Au was a second team JUCO All American. Someone told me that Sydney Grider was the last JUCO All American we signed. He had a nice career here as one of the best pure shooters we have ever had. Prior to the pandemic Sydney was still playing recreational ball in the area and his shot was still a weapon. If Au can have a career like Sydney did here, we likely will be pleased. I was also told his basketball IQ is high as he has been well coached throughout his HS and JUCO career.
