Louisiana Women's Basketball's Sun Belt Conference schedule has been restructured from its original format to an 18-game, divisional layout to address safety concerns due to COVID-19, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon.
With the new schedule, the Ragin' Cajuns will compete in the West Division and face Arkansas State, Little Rock, Texas State and UTA twice at home and twice on the road, while playing one home-and-home series against in-state rival ULM.
All league games will be held on Friday and Saturday with the exception of the ULM series, which will be played on Thursday, Feb. 11 in Lafayette and Saturday, Feb. 13, in Monroe, to allow for travel.
Louisiana will play six of its first eight league contests on the road, opening conference play in San Marcos, Texas, to square off with Texas State on Jan. 1-2. The road trip continues Jan. 8-9 when the Ragin' Cajuns head north for a rematch of the Sun Belt Tournament Quarterfinals against Little Rock.
Following the two road series, the team will meet up with UTA (Jan. 15-16) for its Sun Belt home opener before venturing back out to face Arkansas State in Jonesboro.
The team then returns to Lafayette for five-straight games when Texas State (Jan. 20-30), Arkansas State (Feb. 5-6) and ULM (Feb. 11) all visit the CAJUNDOME. After a return trip to ULM (Feb. 13) and UTA (Feb. 19-20), the Ragin' Cajuns close out their conference slate at home with two games against Little Rock (Feb. 26-27).
The Sun Belt Tournament will be played in Pensacola, Florida, this year. Game are scheduled for March 5-8 with First-Round and Second-Round games played simultaneously at the Pensacola Bay Center and Hartsell Arena on the campus of Pensacola State College.
The CAJUNDOME will operate at a significantly reduced capacity for the 2020-21 season (unless state policy changes during the season). This will allow for fans and University students to be accommodated this season.
Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020-21 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments through its social media channels and RaginCajuns.com. Additionally, the department will communicate any changes to specific entry and attendance protocols for home games.
To celebrate the program's 50th season, fans can purchase season tickets at the $50 price point season tickets by visiting RaginCajuns.com/WBBTix and will also be able to enjoy in honor of the special season.
