Wouldnt their membership in div 1 baseball have far preceded their fbs membership in football. since in baseball and some other sports division I is not so divided as it is in football with fbs and fcs

They won the NC the year before they began SBC play.

And for the baseball NC, conference is moot. They have to play their way there.

And a bit of trivia: As Arizona knocked us out of our regional as the #1 seed,* CCU knocked LSU out. Both made it to the NC game.

*Speaking of something fishy, 'Zona beat us because they went back to their ace on 1 or 2 days rest. Tony would never do that, he would never put a kid's arm at risk just for a W. So they advanced.

Play them in a bowl.
If we’re to win tomorrow , and Tulsa won, we “had a chance” to make it to a NY6.
However, after I saw the travesty of a two loss Florida dropping ONLY ONE SPOT -after losing to a 3-5 UN ranked, BAD LSU team, leaving an undefeated Cincy team BEHIND them, I doubt that would have occurred.
If we won tomorrow, and Cincy won, we would be back to our bowl choices that have been discussed on this board for the last two weeks (nothing really exciting)
If we lost tomorrow, same thing.
Now, we have a bowl with meaning against a higher ranked opponent.
Let’s make some lemonade out of this jar of phis that CCU just dumped on us!

If we would have beaten Coastal and Tulsa won; it wasn't just "a chance" to make a NY6 Bowl. The NY6 bowl is awarded to the highest ranked G5 conference champion. Even if Cincy is ranked higher than us after a loss to Tulsa, they are still ineligible due to them not being conference champs, same with Coastal.

The Sun Belt previously decided to submit its highest-ranked team in the College Football Playoff as champion if the conference title game could not be played. So Coastal Carolina will be considered the Sun Belt representative to the CFP, giving the Chanticleers a shot at a New Year's Six bowl as the highest-ranked Group of 5 conference champion if No. 23 Tulsa beats No. 9 Cincinnati in the American Athletic Conference title game on Saturday.

They key here is "entire position group". I do not believe we had an entire position group out. And it was nowhere near 11 players for the Coastal Carolina game.

So, my question still remains. In such a situation where an entire position group is out, does the affected program have a choice to play the game? Or is it a conference rule that the game is automatically canceled with no recourse.

Even when head coaches (such as Saban) tested positive, there were not entire position groups "out" due to contact tracing. How are entire position groups always not "out" due to contact tracing every time any coach tests positive or any player within a position group tests positive and there are position group meetings or practices with that player or coach being present? By this reasoning (Coastal's reasoning for canceling), every college football game this year should have been cancelled where any one coach or one player tested positive, as long as those persons had attended a practice or position group meeting.
