Thread: McGuire takes move to tailback in stride

  1. UL Football McGuire takes move to tailback in stride

Brad McGuire spent his early days on the football field at running back before moving to quarterback in the seventh grade.

"Growing up I was just so much bigger than everybody else," said McGuire, now a junior at UL. "I didn't move to quarterback until one of my middle school coaches saw me throw the ball."

With the injuries piling up in the Cajuns' backfield, the Pensacola, Fla., native has shifted back to his old position and plans to stay there for the duration of spring drills.

Every one of our backs is injured. They're all just banged up type of things and nothing is going to keep them from participating in the summer workouts and fall but nonetheless, its discouraging. Let's not forget that most of our WR corp is banged up also.

Heck, we were planning on tailgating for Spring Game but it looks like we may not have enough players to have an offense. LOL

Hopefully Rob Walker will be playing in a week or so. He' s just got a pulled hamstring so its nothing that's serious. Shankle got banged up on a play when he got hit so hopefully he's just taking a few days off. It looked worse for Yobes as he had his ankle heavily taped and iced at the game. Come summer, we obviously get back to full strength and get Rob Walker, Spikes and Kevis Streeter in the backfield to see what we have.

Just to add what you mentioned, Rob Walker pulled a hamstring during practice last Wednesday. He did some jogging on the side Monday. They're not going to rush him back.

Shankle took a shot to the ribs and was having a tough time breathing. He will be fine in time.

Also, Yobes Walker was back at practice Monday. Joel Banks is also hurt.
