Appalachian State Game Postponed by Mountaineers

Louisiana Football's Wednesday, Oct. 7, game at Appalachian State has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing within the Mountaineers' football program.

Louisiana and Appalachian State, with assistance from the Sun Belt Conference, have rescheduled the game to either Friday, Dec. 4, or Saturday, Dec. 5, in Boone, N.C.

"We are disappointed for our football program, but are certainly supportive and understanding of Appalachian State's response to this situation," Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard said. "The health and safety of all involved is of the highest importance."

Head coach Billy Napier's Ragin' Cajuns (3-0, 2-0) will continue preparations for the remainder of its 2020 schedule at this time. Additional schedule information will be announced as it becomes available.

The Sun Belt showcase game on Wednesday night between Appalachian State and Louisiana will be postponed, sources told Yahoo Sports. The game was originally scheduled for Oct. 7 in Boone, North Carolina.

The reason for the postponement is positive tests and contact tracing at Appalachian State, according to sources. This marks the 24th FBS game that’s been postponed or canceled because of COVID-19.

The game is expected to be rescheduled to Dec. 4-5, according to a source.

We’re not ready for this Saturday, so I’m thinking it’ll be hard to find anyone for Wednesday. We’re not ready to play or host a game this week.

Should we play Saturday without any game preparation, and what about accommodations in Houston. A lot more goes into games than an after school touch contest. I’m not ready to sacrifice our program just to have a game.
