Every week of success needs a Henny Penny thread. Hopefully there will be a dozen Henny Penny threads by the end of the year.
Case in overall point. ...
The week after Louisiana was ranked for the very first time they lost focus and allowed UAM to tie them up.
Granted UAM was definitely a top-10 team that year, but Louisiana was best bar none.
That tie cost Louisiana any further perception rankings that season. Even though they went undefeated the rest of the way.
Two events show how hard it is to overcome the petception hurdle.
1) Louisiana beat the only team to that defeated Notre Dame, the eventual National Champion.
2) Louisiana got a rematch with the team that tied them and smashed them.
Didn't matter, that temporary loss of focus cost them their rightful place in history.
Arkansas Monticello was originally called Arkansas A&M. Unfortunately, they aren’t listed on 1943 Notre Dame schedule.
That team.
A school that had no team in 1942.
A team that due to the influx of talent on campus decided in October to play football, except they had no uniforms or equipment. They had to borrow uniforms from Arkansas for their first game, who they promptly defeated with one week of practice.
Arkansas at Monticello lost 2 games, 1 being to Louisiana.
They outscored their opposition 198-70.
44 of the 70 points they gave up were to Louisiana. Other than that they gave up 26 points all year.
Everyone's perception about the 1943 Boll Weevils was completely off.

Every game this season is huge if we are going to capitalize on this opportunity.
You can't teach a new kid old tricks they think they are immune to trap games.
