Thread: NCAA Tourney Bid

    Default NCAA Tourney Bid

In the Women's game, NCAA tourney hold first and second round at University sites...Has Lafayette ever tried to bid to host the tourney first and second round? The Cajundome is an excellent facility, but it would probably bring money to the city and UL would be on national TV whether or not UL is playing...just a thought.

Why would they ever do that? It's not like we pack the place when UL's womens team plays. Until we do, an NCAA site selection committee won't give Lafayette a second thought.

Site selection for an NCAA tourney venue has nothing to do with how successful the home team is. It has to do with logistics and efficiency in putting on the event with emphasis on regional location, ability to sell tickets, proximity of venue to restaurants, hotels and airports to allow for ease of incoming fans and teams to the area and attractiveness of the venue to those fans to make them want to come to the city not only for the games but for entertainment purposes. I have no doubt that Lafayette is a great city but what will make people from the midwest, who have never heard of Lafayette is the question, not the success of the local team. You won't see Storr's Connecticut hosting any tourney games even though they are home to the best team ever. You may see NYC, however, as everybody wants to visit NY.
