This post from lifetimecajun says it all:

"Re-recruit! U guys don't see it? For the most part, we have been the same team, the same guys out there, for the past 2 yrs. And we haven't gotten any better. It's not like a switch, it isn't gonna just happen if u don't have ability. Pathetic baseball."

No amount of jostling the roster or whatever maneuvers are made are going to make a difference. UL has not been a good baseball team for the last 2+ years. What we are is a very, very average team. I'm not saying moves shouldn't be made, becuase they should. That is what COACHING is all about. However, what I see this year and for the last several is that the moves aren't being made soon enough or at the right times.

Don't kid yourselves either, because we are not a great pitching team, no matter what Robe or J-Walker say. When you hit and walk as many batters as we have over the last couple of years, the pitching staff ain't that good.

The nice thing about baseball is that comparisons are statistically driven. We lead the conference in ERA by nearly a run. Pitching doesn't really stick out unless a guy K's 12/ shuts out the conference rival, etc. it is really easy to percieve the pitching staff in terms of the teams overall success. It is perception versus reality. My opinion only. Not great, but good. Numbers don't lie. If we even creep up to just above average hitting and fielding in the conference, we probably win it. We have far to go for that, however.

Agreed, and I didn't mean to imply that the pitching staff is horrible, just not as lauded as we were lead to believe at the beginning of the year.

One of my beefs with Robe is that he doesn't give some of the other pitchres enough of a shot, or even a shot at all. Obviously, I am not at practice every day to see how they look, but if they aren't good enough to see the field, then why recruit them?

We do not have the talent we had 10 years ago or even 3 years ago. The talent gap is huge at the plate and in the field, but even the pitching has sliped. Do a position by position breakdown of our 1999,2000 or even the 2007team to this years team. Do you pick more than two players from the current team?

If Robe is to be criticized, it should be for subpar recruiting. Even with a team turn around and a stellar coaching job, these guys are not making a serious run in the NCAA tournament. Recruiting will have to get better.

One last point and I'll give my fingers a rest. Pitchers from the past will tell you run support and soft gloves make their job easier and makes them look better. It is easier (assuming you can pitch) to get in a rocking chair with a 5 run lead after two innings, something recent teams haven't done much. The extra outs we give up stretches the staff out, exposes depth and pretty soon it snowballs downhill.

Shouldn't we expect a GREAT class this coming year since Robe does not have to worry about keeping up the field?

Getting back to the title of this post. Bostick is not an option right now. He has a pulled oblique muscle.
