I'm sure that he's extremely frustrated as we all are. But the scary thing here is that this game is not just a fluke, it's looking like a pattern. Many errors and weak hitting. This by itself is bad enough. We do have fairly strong pitching, but all of the errors cause the starters to throw too many pitches and exit the game too early. Good to hear from you square head!!!
What is a cool aid sipper?...Anyway, easy there bud. Lets not get carried away. I understand your pain, but you cant blame consistant errors entirely on coaching. We just got to get it together. I have my moments where I lose faith in robe and wish he wouldnt recruit 10 pitchers and less than a handfull of position players. And also getting these juco guys for the most part arent panning out.(Except Bostick). But it is still early so I guess will see. And it wouldnt hurt if could luck out and still a few recruits from lsu.
"And it wouldnt hurt if could luck out and still a few recruits from lsu."
Well ive always said that when lsu wins a national title, we should be able to pick up top recruits from around the state, just because they can hand pick whoever they want across the country. However, our program isnt in the position to do that at this time. We arent in the top 3 in the state
Poirrier is a liability everywhere except the plate. He doesn't play focused. He makes constant mental errors, and doesn't look fluid at 2nd at all. I was the first to advocate sitting Bostick, but I strongly retract that statement. Poirrier has GOT to be taken off the field.
So far, the trends of this Baseball team have taught us this:
If we don't pitch lights out everytime out, we don't really have a chance to win.
We're averaging 3 errors per game, and 2 unearned runs a game. Can't win like that. Also, Tyler Frederick needs to get more playing time. With the naked eye, he looks like a traditional ball player. He plays hard, he looks competent at the plate, and his defense is better than most of our starters. It seems like the only consistent hitters in this lineup are Jordan and Fuse. Everyone else is streaky or inconsistent. No one in that lineup scares you (even Poirrier because he's a strikeout waiting to happen the other 6 times he's making outs - .380 something avg). Geith has been average against good teams, which can still improve. Hopefully, with some experience, he can pull himself back up to the early Sunday starts.
The good news is a handful of our young players look solid at this point. Fuse is coming on, and when the freshmen are getting chances, they at least past the eye test.
I'm still sick to my stomach thinking about the bases loaded on Sunday and 2 batters watching 3 strikes pass them by. I'm so sick of this team not competing at the plate. Something is not right in Lafayette concerning baseball guys..
The problem is we are playing guys out of position because we didn't go out and get a firstbaseman. To start the season we had 2 catchers and a thirdbaseman playing there. Switz was to be the answer at third and he's struggled a little defensively, and alot offensively. I like the idea of interchangable parts in the infield but those parts u move need to be solid solid defenders. There is Something bout Fredrick I like, it may be time to send him out and let him grow up and learn on the go as did fontenot and goulas

I like Fredrick and possibly he can play third. Maybe flip flop Keefer and Guillory at the catcher and 1st base positions. I feel Keefer could handle first and Guillory has caught a lot before. Right now with a shot to third and the throw to first I hold my breath. Swish is the odd man out in all cases but hopefully he can get his hitting touch back.

While at the game, I had my headphones on listening to Jay and Steve call the game. It's not very often that you can hear utter contempt and disgust in Jay's voice, but he sounded pretty dam po'd to me on Sunday.. It was a disheartening experience all the way around.. I miss 2000
This post from lifetimecajun says it all:
"Re-recruit! U guys don't see it? For the most part, we have been the same team, the same guys out there, for the past 2 yrs. And we haven't gotten any better. It's not like a switch, it isn't gonna just happen if u don't have ability. Pathetic baseball."
No amount of jostling the roster or whatever maneuvers are made are going to make a difference. UL has not been a good baseball team for the last 2+ years. What we are is a very, very average team. I'm not saying moves shouldn't be made, becuase they should. That is what COACHING is all about. However, what I see this year and for the last several is that the moves aren't being made soon enough or at the right times.
Don't kid yourselves either, because we are not a great pitching team, no matter what Robe or J-Walker say. When you hit and walk as many batters as we have over the last couple of years, the pitching staff ain't that good.
The nice thing about baseball is that comparisons are statistically driven. We lead the conference in ERA by nearly a run. Pitching doesn't really stick out unless a guy K's 12/ shuts out the conference rival, etc. it is really easy to percieve the pitching staff in terms of the teams overall success. It is perception versus reality. My opinion only. Not great, but good. Numbers don't lie. If we even creep up to just above average hitting and fielding in the conference, we probably win it. We have far to go for that, however.
Agreed, and I didn't mean to imply that the pitching staff is horrible, just not as lauded as we were lead to believe at the beginning of the year.
One of my beefs with Robe is that he doesn't give some of the other pitchres enough of a shot, or even a shot at all. Obviously, I am not at practice every day to see how they look, but if they aren't good enough to see the field, then why recruit them?
We do not have the talent we had 10 years ago or even 3 years ago. The talent gap is huge at the plate and in the field, but even the pitching has sliped. Do a position by position breakdown of our 1999,2000 or even the 2007team to this years team. Do you pick more than two players from the current team?
If Robe is to be criticized, it should be for subpar recruiting. Even with a team turn around and a stellar coaching job, these guys are not making a serious run in the NCAA tournament. Recruiting will have to get better.
