Thread: UL Softball: Melissa Mayeux

  1. Default UL Softball: Melissa Mayeux

As you guys probably know, Ms. Mayeux is from France. She isn't able to return home over the summer because of Covid. Obviously, remaining State-Side wasn't part of her plans, financially or otherwise. She is looking for odd jobs to make some cash.

The Softball house is nearby, so Mrs. MAT and I are talking about committing to helping with meals. We'll do as much as we can to help. I just wanted to spread the word. If you guys can help out, PM and I'll get you in touch with her.

Is there any NCAA rules/issues to be concerned about with this. Since you're looking at jobs I would assume not, but it is the NCAA.

Athletes can get paid to work. There are no violations here.

Barring any stupidity from the NCAA jeopardizing her eligibility, seems to me one of the area select ball teams should snatch her up. She could maybe give lessons on the side too.

You have to go through the athletic department to do this and it must be done at your residence. In other words you can not buy groceries or meals at restaurants for student athletes. I'm sure this is what ManAboutTown is suggesting.

    What about a job?

Kind of checked up. Yeah, go through the Department.

Very true and good point to be cautious. But why could baseball players in cape cod league get free food and free housing. Ive even heard they are paid for do nothing jobs similar to ones football players used to get in trouble for.

Cape Cod league isn’t under the NCAA control. Players however are. So maybe it’s simply an acceptable way to get a small revenue. It’s not a direct benefit from the universities getting an unfair recruiting advantage.
